Sad day at our house today

Our dog Chewie woke up this morning with his eye out of his socket. It was the saddest thing and looked terrible. We took him to the vet and they did surgery on him--we have to put ointment on his eye and give him pain meds. There is a possibility that he will lose his eye. We go back in on Thursday for a check up to see how things are healing. The vet couldn't tell today if the eye was functioning properly or not because the pupil would not dialate (which is not a good sign). She said there is a 2/3 chance he will come through okay. We are all sad and having a downer of a day. They say this is common among Shih Tzu dogs. It could have happened for a number of reasons--getting hit, having his hair pulled back, rubbing it, etc. Shih Tzu's are buggy eyed anyway. We aren't sure exactly how it happened--we just hope he gets better quick!
