Tanner injured his shoulder back in June--or at least that is when he started complaining about it. I took him to see a doctor on July 3 (I remember the date because it was early in the morning the day after we took Zach to the airport--hard day to get up and moving!). They suspected he had a torn labrum so they ordered an MRI. He had that the following week and sure enough--that is what he had. The Dr. wanted to give it some time and see if it would heal on its own because he is young and that could happen. So, he was not throw with that arm for a while. We went ahead and went with the baseball team to Southern California where Tanner was only able to DH. It was a bummer that he couldn't play out in the field anymore. He went back to see the Dr. for a check up after about 6 weeks and he had him start with therapy because it was still hurting. After five therapy sessions--it was not helping at all. By this point, Tanner was starting to stress out! So, we went to see the doctor again a couple weeks earlier than we had originally scheduled. At this time, the doctor took a better look at the MRI and the notes from the PT and they went ahead and scheduled surgery--for yesterday! Tanner was so nervous. He worried about the surgery itself, the recovery, missing school and homework and whether he would be playing ball in the Spring or not. The surgery went well, so far recovery is good (he had a block and is still pretty numb it is slowly wearing off and he hasn't been in much pain.....yet). Shoulder surgery is the most painful they told us because of the joints up there. We got him all set up with Homebound services at school which is awesome because these absences do not count as absences--yea! He will be able to access his homework online or the homebound teacher will bring it to our house so hopefully he won't get too far behind. Here's hoping the rest of the recover will continue to go as smooth. We are keeping up on the pain meds for now and keeping him comfortable.
