I hate the first day of August--it is a sure sign that summer is winding down and you can just feel Back to School in the air. I know I am not the norm, I just dread summer ending and sending the kids back to school. I LOVE our relaxed summer routine and just having everyone home all day. This summer started out really yucky because I had to work so much. I was constantly trying to make up hours for those I had missed due to a lower caseload and more hours added onto my contract. I was also busy and stressed with Girls' Camp and then the Trek. Once July 20th came around and I started my new contract--I don't care anymore!
I think if you ask the kids, they'd all say they had a great summer. Zach has been working at Icon at night and All About Kids a few afternoons a week. He is making his own money, sleeping in late and hanging with his friends for the "last" summer and spending his own money. He is enjoying life and realizing that his days are numbered here at home with the family. We enjoy whenever he is around and are not looking forward to the day we say goodbye (no call yet, papers to be filled out soon). Tanner played lots and lots of baseball and has joined the ranks of "hanging out every night with friends" until midnight. He is really looking forward to starting at the high school and has lots of friends to help make that transition easier. Kaden got to hang out with friends, take it easy (what he is best at), go to Scout Camp and go on a couple baseball trips with Dad. Brynn has been the "play with friends all day" queen. She has so many fun friends in the neighborhood, they just go from house to house and play all day! It has been so great not to have to entertain her every day.
We have spent some fun days at the Logan Pool, gone for Zeppes treats, watched some local baseball games and enjoyed being outside in the evenings when it cools down. Now it's time to start thinking about school starting--the kids start back on August 23rd, we have 9 days. We have supplies purchased, some new clothes to start with, backpacks, new shoes, schedules fixed, registration fees paid and haircuts scheduled. I think we are about ready! Kaden, Brynn and I spent the day at Cherry Hill yesterday. USDB had a Back to School Party there--we all had a great time on waterslides, playing miniature golf and swimming. This weekend the family is going to a Bee's game with a few friends in the ward. It's going to be a great time!
