Trek 2012

Greg, Zach, Tanner and Denise
At this point, the long pants had been zipped off and Greg was no longer wearing his pioneer gear, but we did all start out that way!!

This year Greg and I were Ma's and Pa's for the Stake Trek.  We went to Martin's Cove, WY on Wednesday, July 18 to Saturday, July 21.  We had a great time.  Our family was Zach and Tanner and then three really fun girls from our ward--Hailey, Ashleigh and Shaylyn.  It took a lot of prep to get ready to go (it didn't help that we started preparing about a week before--ha ha).  We finally rounded up clothes for everyone, cowboy hats, packed our buckets, made our family flag, loaded up our tents, coolers, etc.  We rode school busses for 6 hours the first day.  We stopped Wednesday at Rock Creek Hollow for the night and then got up and packed everything up and went to Martin's Cove.  (we stopped at Independence Rock on our way).  At Martin's Cove, we got our handcarts, loaded them up and trekked three miles to our campsite.  We set up camp, ate yummy food and the boys played a fun game of glow in the dark wiffle ball.  The next day we pushed our handcarts up to Martin's Cove, had lunch, crossed the Sweetwater River and then did the Women's Pull.  It was a long, hot day, but we had a great time.  That afternoon we had lots of free time.  A couple other Ma's and I washed about 20 heads of hair!!  We were all feeling pretty gross by that time.  We had lots of Firesides and Devotionals, fun times, spiritual times and some onery times (ha ha waking boys up at 6 am is a lot of fun!).  The food was great, the boys had fun playing the games they had prepared, playing in the Sweetwater River and hanging out with their friends.  We were all really glad to get off the bus on Saturday--after we trekked out from our campsite, we got to eat a yummy lunch and then load the busses for a 7 hour bus ride home.  Not so fun, but we survived and we had a fun time!  Greg and I were especially glad to share the experience with our boys.  Kaden was too young to come, but he was at Scout camp for the week and Brynn stayed home with a neighbor friend for a couple days and then Grandma and Grandpa Butler.  We were all happy to be reunited again on Saturday night!
