I currently have a Level 1 teaching license for Birth to 5 Special Education. Twenty years ago, I graduated from BYU with a Level 1 Elementary Education teaching license. So, that's not the bad news. I am currently working to upgrade to a Level 2 teaching license in Birth to 5 Sp Ed. Well, we were told to complete the background check, get finger printed, pay a lot of money, pay a lot more money and take the Praxis PLT: Early Childhood test and then pay a lot more money to upgrade. So, I have been studying my little heart out for this test (that has absolutely nothing to do with my job or what I do). I've paid a lot of money and scheduled to take the test on March 10th. Then get the results, pray I pass and pay the last fee to upgrade by June 30th. WELL...last Friday, I was told there was some good news and bad news. The good news is--we do not need to take the Praxis PLT test for Birth to 5 Special Education upgrade. The bad news is--because I have another teaching license I have to upgrade BOTH of them. That means that I need to take TWO Praxis tests. SERIOUSLY? I have never taught a day in El Ed nor do I plan to. I called and talked with the head guy at USOE and he said, the only thing I could do was go to the State Board of Education. So, I did! But...I was told they can not remove any teaching licenses. So, I was given a year extension to take the two tests. I will take the PLT in March and then begin studying for the Elementary Ed Content one. Nice....I hope to pass both and be done before my fingerprints and background check expire in January 2013! Wish me luck!

Wow Denise, that's a lot of tests and money. That does sound like some pretty bad news. I'm sorry but I'm sure you'll do just fine.
I talked to Zach after the assembly on Thursday. Oh my gosh, he has GROWN UP!!! Josh didn't even know who he was. I said, it's Zach and he was still drawing a blank and I said, Johnson and he about fell over. I cannot believe that you have a SENIOR! He is so grown up, I can't believe it. He does look a lot like Greg though.
We need to get together sometime!
Denise,
I am dealing with the exact same thing here! I am trying to decide if it is even worth staying working for AZ State School for the Deaf and Blind. I was told last week I had to take a training and 2 major tests or 4 graduate level classes and a internship where I follow someone with my same job. I only work part-time so I am wondering if it is even worth paying the money or just quitting and being a substitute teacher instead. I have been working this job for 10 years. How silly would it be for me to follow someone around with my same job with out pay! I cannot decide what to do!!!
Good Luck!
