A few weeks ago, it was announced in church that we were going to have a Ward Campout on August 19th. Brynn was so excited and whispered, "Can we go? Please?" I marked it in my planner and seeing there was nothing else planned, I told her I didn't see why we couldn't. Ha! At that time, I had NO idea that Zach was going to be playing football this year OR that his first game would be in Provo on August 19th! Once I figured out the dilemna, I didn't say anything and just figured that worst case scenario would be that Greg would go to the game and I would take Brynn camping! Greg debated on whether he should go or not (he wanted to go camping with us)--we figured Zach probably wouldn't play that first game anyway but we really do our best to be supportive of the kids and knew it would mean something to Zach to have someone there. So, Friday morning, Greg loaded up and drove down to Utah County and spent the day with his parents until the game. I got to go to the Ward Campout and stay the night with Brynn! I don't really mind camping, it's fun especially when there doesn't have to be too much work (meal planning, shopping, packing, storing, etc). This would be easy--bring our own dinner Friday night and breakfast provided Saturday morning. I worried a little bit about putting up the tent--I had helped do it a few other times but hoped I would look like I knew what I was doing! We left around 5:00--picked up a few snacks at the store and then stopped at Subway for a sandwich for dinner. We went to Maple Rise campground in Wellsville (20 minutes away) and ate our dinner--there were only about 4 other tents at that point. We unloaded our stuff and another family who wasn't staying over night, helped me problem solve the tent and get it up. It turned out that there were only SIX families who stayed over night--including Brynn and I!! (Oh and I tried to get Tanner and Kaden to come along but they had better things planned--a Back to School party for Kaden and hanging out with friends for Tanner!). A lot of families came up for the evening--we visited, made S'mores, kids ran around and played games and then we had a little fireside. We settled into our little 2 man tent around 10:30 and Brynn decided she was a little scared---I convinced her we were fine and we talked about Book of Mormon stories we liked until she finally drifted off to sleep. I slept pretty good, I was surprised at how comfortable I was--it pays to have a husband who invests in the "best" stuff. He enjoys backpacking and had a great tent and comfy sleeping bags and pads from his trips. I woke up around 5:30 am to thunder and lightening and a little rain--GREAT! Luckily it wasn't much and it blew over pretty quick. We got up around 7:15, took down our tent, packed up and enjoyed breakfast with the other families and a few others who came back up. On the way home, Brynn said she had fun and was glad we went. I told her on our way that I would be the ONLY mother who was staying overnight without a spouse--and I was right.....do I get the Mother of the Year award??

Wow!! You really are the mother of the year!! I probably would have not said anything more about it and hoped the kids would forget. :)
