Mountain Crest Baseball

The Mustangs did a great job in the state tournament. They won their first game on a Tuesday at home vs. Springville. Then we had some rainy days (the theme of our spring this year) so we didn't play again until Saturday (was supposed to be Wednesday). They won that game also vs. Lehi. (it was a close one though!). After playing those two games at home, the next part of the tournament was down at Kearns High School. They have an AMAZING field. They were scheduled to play Tuesday evening which was perfect for our schedule....until it....rained! They moved that game until Wednesday at 11---right when I am teaching Toddler Group in Ogden. So I frantically did what I needed to do to get a sub and make the necessary arrangements. THEN...they notified us that the field would be too wet so the games were set back one game--so we played at 1:30. We took all the kids and my Dad met us there--we played against East. Withall of the rain delays, Mountain Crest was able to pitch their ace--Rhett Parkinson for the first three games. We had a lot of errors in the game vs. East so we ended up losing that game when they had a walk off homerun. That put us playing again that day at 7:00 vs. Bonneville (a team from our region that we beat 3 times already). Of course--during that couple hour break, Kaden starts to feel really sick. He had a little fever, chills, headache and was nauseous--GREAT! I decided that it might be better if I just left and took the kids with me and Greg stayed and watched the next game with my dad and rode home with him. Kaden was able to rest it off and started feeling better midway through the second game (he laid on/under a blanket on the grass). I knew he was doing better when he wanted a hot dog. I'm so glad we stayed--the Bonneville game was very exciting--it got close and we were down by one in the 7th inning. We got bases loaded--then an error scored one...now we are tied. Then they ended up walking the next batter (bases loaded, 2 outs and full count---doesn't get any better than that!). What an exciting finish. That meant we would be playing Spanish Fork (3rd in the nation) the next morning at 9:00 in Orem at UVU. Luckily, we planned ahead and packed our things to spend the night just in case we got in this predicament. We sent Tanner home with a friend becausehe had to be in school Thursday--the rest of us went down to Springville to stay at Greg's parents house.

Zach was the starting pitcher against Spanish Fork. It scared the heck out of me. I was very proud when he took the mound. It brought tears to my eyes. I knew he had his work cut out for him against Spanish Fork. They are a great team and can really hit the ball. He got out of the first inning with no runs!! Yeah!! The game ended with a score of 9-2. They finished 4th in the state again this year. It was so sad--not so much that they lost, but more that it was the end of the season and they wouldn't be playing together again. There are 8 graduating seniors on the team and I know Zach is really going to miss them.

Now--it's on to summer ball. Zach will be playing on the Blacksmith Fork Trappers AA team (which consists of next year's MC Seniors and a few underclassmen) traveling to Idaho Falls and Spokane, WA and also on a Top of UT team playing in Ogden, Bear River, and Oregon! Tanner will be playing on the Blacksmith Fork Trappers B team (which is the incoming Freshman) this summer.
