We have had a very busy, crazy, emotional few days!! Let me start with Saturday....Brynn went to Scout Day Camp with her Activity Days group and Kaden went on a hike to Mt. Naomi up Logan Canyon with his scouts. I was hoping to get a lot of things done to prepare for Zach's farewell the following day (picking up a few things, returning a few things, cleaning, cooking, weeding, etc). Greg was mowing the lawn and getting some things done outside. He mentioned a time or two that he was worried about Kaden and I said--he'll be fine should be home soon. I ran a few errands and when I returned at 2:00 he was really concerned and asked me to text a lady who's husband had gone on the hike and see if she had heard from them. Just as I was doing that--Greg got a phone call from another leader saying that Kaden had had a fall on the hike and was in bad shape. He asked if we wanted to meet him at the ER or have him come home. Greg had them bring him here so we could do an assessment of his injuries. He got home a few minutes later---he had scrapes and cuts all over his arms and legs, was throwing up and his lower, right, back was killing him. He looked terrible-was really pale and when I gave him a drink he threw up immediately--he was dehydrated. We decided to take two cars (in case one of us could leave and get things ready for Sunday). We went to Instacare first and I ran in to see if they could get him some fluids with an IV or if we should go to the ER. They said they could help us so we got Kaden checked in. He got taken back very quickly and when he described his back pain and the dr touched his back and could see how tender it was, he was concerned there was an injury to his kidney so they sent us to the ER.
We got to the ER around 4:00 pm. They took him right back and did a trauma triage. He was in bad shape--they got him to a room and hooked him up to an IV and started to run tests-- took his blood and he had a CT scan. They found that he had lacerated his kidney. They gave us the worse case scenario--life flight and have surgery at Primary's. Wow--I kept thinking, that is not in my plan this weekend...the next possibility was surgery here in Logan. Again--that would keep him from the farewell and taking Zach to the airport on Tuesday for sure. Finally, the best option was the possibility to just watch and wait. The doctor we needed to see was in surgery so we waited for hours to find out what we were doing. They also contacted a urologist and the two decided that Kaden would be admitted and watched overnight and not have surgery. Yea...Greg went home to get things ready and I had some friends who stopped by the house to pick up all of the stuff I had gathered for the lunch at the park the next day (the tablecloths, deocrations, pictures, meat and sauce ingredients). I am so thankful for our friends who pulled that off for us!
Kaden was in a lot of pain but rested well Saturday night (me not so much ha ha). When the dr came in Sunday morning at 7 am he said that he could go home so he could be at the farewell at 11 am. I immediately got the nurses on board so we could hurry and get him out of there (everything in the hospital takes forever). Greg got ready for church and swapped me places and got Kaden ready--we all made it to the farewell in plenty of time.
We are so grateful that Kaden is doing well and that his injuries were not worse. He is such a trooper and getting better and better every day.
